Liza melds folk craft, contemporary art, and pop culture through her multidisciplinary practice that crosses boundaries between textiles, embroidery, experimental forms and drawing skills. She's trained in capturing the chaos of the day-to-day in cute, fuzzy, wild abstract creatures. Through textiles, she examines her inner space with a goal of reinventing norms of self-expression.
«From lush floral motifs to impressionistic portraits, artist Liza Smirnova’s embroidered artwork is a smorgasbord of bold coloured threads set against a vast array of rich textiles.»

A far cry from the genteel craft our grandmothers and aunts indulged in, Liza’s work is part of a new movement that blends traditional embroidery with contemporary, edgy topics and a sense of humour.
